NAKED STATE RESIDENCY
RESIDENCY NAKED STATE RESIDENCY - TORONTO, CANADA - AUGUST 2018
I will be taking part of Naked State, a 10-day residency to create artworks that explore the nude human body in context of nature, culture and art. For the duration of the residency, the artists and residency Facilitator live as *naturists (in the nude) within the naturist community of Bare Oaks Family Naturist Park to create works that explore questions such as: What is nudity? Does stripping away clothing rid us of class, gender, and personal expression?; Do the connections between our bodies and the land change when nude? Is nudity always sexual? What is the role of the nude in historical and contemporary art?; Is an animal with fur naked? Is it possible to be civil in the nude?; Is there a natural state for human being?

"During the residency, I will expand on a solo recently developed the working title of the solo “Auto” is primarily based on the themes of intimacy and consent. My research in the beginning phase of the work included physical task work revolving around questions such as: What does it means to actively give to or restrain from someone? Are we being vocal? What happens when one gives in? Through physical movement, I explored these concepts/questions and constructed a body map. Now, I will explore the question of unwanted intimacy, its consequences and positive outcomes. I will work under this lens and will be physicalizing how unwanted, shame and distortion projected onto the physical body can be healed through a combination of connectivity with our ground earth and movement. During my time at Naked State Residency, I will construct miniature clay bodies that will act as my healing circle. Generating a living and working space that will be free from all outside constructs, protecting the ground and body. I am interested in recreating a new body born from the land."
